The Illuminated Letter: Art From the Book of Kells

Come join us for a spiritual hands-on workshop in the creation of an illuminated letter, a letter incorporating fantastical beasts and intricate knot work, the surreal art of monks steeped in the medieval Celtic tradition.

Come create an illuminated letter, an initial from your own name, or, an initial from the name of someone or something you honor and love.

At the workshop, participants are provided artificial gold leaf, gold leaf adhesive size, faux calf vellum (pergamenata parchment), gouache paint, fine (2O) paint brushes, and samples of medieval Celtic letters & motifs.

Where: Trinity + St. Peter's (T+SP) Episcopal Church, Trinity Chapel 1600 Gough, @ Gough & Bush, San Francisco, two blocks West of Van Ness and three blocks North of Geary Boulevard.

#Seats: 15 seats are available on a 1st come, 1st serve basis to those who RSVP; beyond the first 15 reserved seats, other attendees may audit the workshop as observers.

Food: A potluck meal will be served: workshop attendees are invited (but, not required) to bring a tasty dish. Dishes based upon medieval recipes are especially welcome!

Cost: This workshop is FREE of charge, but donations to cover the expense of art supplies are gratefully accepted.
